Job description

To be responsible for carrying out venepuncture, capillary blood sampling, observations, and ECGs for patients in their own homes, care homes, the travelling community, community hospitals, and/or in clinics. This will support the delivery of community services to patients within the community.

The post holder will also order and restock supplies for their team.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Collection of blood samples from patients in accordance with established procedures.
  2. Ensuring samples are correctly identified using ICE forms labels or clearly written labels in line with service guidelines.
  3. Taking temperature, pulse, and blood pressure readings following agreed procedures.
  4. Administering electrocardiogram (ECG) readings as per procedures.
  5. Collaborating with healthcare professionals and statutory/non-statutory agencies to provide a seamless, integrated service.
  6. Undertaking phlebotomy and technician training to apply competency-based techniques, following requests from qualified practitioners.
  7. Maintaining confidentiality and dignity at all times.
  8. Completing patient records and inputting data into SystmOne daily.
  9. Ensuring equipment is used safely, maintained appropriately, and following relevant training.
  10. Contributing to health promotion initiatives.
  11. Understanding and gaining consent in line with organizational policies.
  12. Adhering to infection control policies when exposed to bodily fluids and infected materials.
  13. Demonstrating dexterity and coordination when conducting treatments requiring precision, such as venepuncture.
