About the Role

As a Community Support Worker with OT focus, you will meet with individuals, families and carers to connect and listen and where necessary undertake an holistic assessment under the Care Act 2014. Where there is an eligible need, you will devise a plan for how the person can access the support they require this may be providing suitable aids and adaptations, offering advice, referring to other suitable professionals, or connecting with their local community. You will be supported by other OTs within the team and your team manager to ensure you are working within the frames of reference for Occupational Therapy. Where necessary, you will identify and report potential safeguarding, consider mental capacity, and other high-risk situations where a person’s safety or liberty may be at risk. Your team will have an office base and can work in a hybrid way. You will undertake visits to people in their own homes primarily but on occasions assessment may need to take place in day centre’s, colleges, or at another family/friends home.

  • Reablement Occupational Therapy Team Charnwood and Melton.

Our Team

Reablement Occupational Therapy (Charnwood and Melton) is a team of 6 full time OT’s, 2 part time senior OTs, and a team manager. The team supports people of all ages and provide holistic assessments to enable them to manage their needs and maximise their independence whilst remaining in their own homes. You will need to have skills around assessment, building good professional relationships, be able to work well alone and within a team environment, understand a wide range of conditions and the impact these can have on a person’s current and long-term needs. Understand Mental Capacity, safeguarding, Disabled facilities grants (DFG), and Occupational Therapy within social care. You will also need to demonstrate an ability to manage your own caseload, and complete work in a timely manner.

As a Grade 8 Trainee Community Support Worker you will be in your first CSW role and will be expected to develop experience, knowledge and skills, complete their Learning and Induction Programme and undertake your duties with support and supervision.

As a Grade 9 Community Support Worker you will be expected to have sufficient experience, knowledge and skills to manage your workload under supervision, to deliver a high quality, person centred, accountable statutory social care. This includes demonstrating competency undertaking Care and Support Assessments, Mental Capacity Assessments and making Best Interest decisions.

As a Community Support Worker, there are further opportunities to develop your career in Adult Social Care at Leicestershire County Council, such as the opportunity to apply to undertake a Social Work Apprenticeship, Occupational Therapy Apprenticeship and routes in leadership roles.

About You

To apply for the CSW post, you must:

  • Hold a Level 2 in Maths and English.
  • Have relevant experience of working with adults in a social care (and a good understanding of Occupational Therapy within social care) setting and of working with other agencies within a fieldwork environment.
  • Understand the need to undertake need and risk assessments and the issues/needs that adults and their families/carers may have.
  • Have a good understanding of social care organisations and their roles and responsibilities as part of the wider community and voluntary sector.
  • Be a confident communicator who is skilled in negotiation, persuasion, assertiveness, and conflict management, and able to build effective working relationships.
  • Be able to recognise the limits of own accountability and responsibility, and to seek appropriate support and advice when required.
  • Be able to manage a caseload and work to clear objectives.
