Job description

We are looking for an upbeat and empathetic Support Worker to join our community support team in Kinson, Bournemouth.

Due to the needs of the person we support, we can only consider male candidates with experience with Autism or Complex Care, supporting people on a 2:1 basis.

You will need to have a Full UK driving license; however, access to your own vehicle is not essential.

Please note: Autism Unlimited does not provide visa sponsorship.

The role

We’re looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic person to support Archie, a young man in his twenties who lives in Kinson.

Archie communicates using Sign-along and a range of alternative tools, including PECS, to express his needs and choices. He thrives with a well-structured daily routine that balances fun, comfort, and personal growth.

As part of Archie’s support team, you could be involved in:

  • Scenic drives through the New Forest or trips to the beach
  • Enjoying music, solving puzzles, or baking tasty treats
  • Weekend visits with his family, including a takeaway dinner and watching a musical or Strictly Come Dancing

We’re always exploring new ways to help Archie engage with and be part of his local community.

At the core of our service is a commitment to promoting independence. We believe a calm, empathetic, and encouraging team is key to helping Archie live a fulfilling and empowered life.

A day in the life of a Support Worker would include:

  • Sharing your skills and life knowledge to enable good life skills and independence in the community
  • Maintaining accurate records regarding care plans, finances, appointments, and medication
  • Following and adapting support plans based on behavioral changes
  • Providing personal care, including hygiene prompts, bathing, washing, and medication assistance

Hours:

Shifts vary between 7am – 10pm, Monday to Sunday, on a two-week rolling rota.

This role includes working alternate weekends and sleep-ins (sleep-ins are paid additionally).
