Job summary

West London NHS Trust seeks a School Nurse to promote health and wellbeing for school-aged children, families and the wider community in London. You will assess needs, implement care plans and support the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner in programme delivery.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse and attend safeguarding meetings, providing written reports.
• Assess and undertake selective health care interventions as directed by the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner, refer to other agencies as necessary.
• Provide professional support and advice to children, young people, their families and schools and liaise and refer in discussion with the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner.
• Support delivery of the 5–19 Healthy Child Programme and National Childhood Measurement Programme under the direction of the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner.
• Support the planning, assessment of need and delivery of the agreed provision of a school health service to each school under the direction of the School Nurse Specialist Practitioner.
• Work within the Nursing & Midwifery Council's framework for practice and adhere to Trust policies, guidelines and clinical supervision.
• Actively promote uptake of all school nurse contacts, and public health interventions, screening and immunisations/vaccinations.

Job description

The post holder will promote and support the health and wellbeing of all school-aged children, their families and the wider community. The post holder will be expected to carry out assessments of needs with school-aged children, young people and their families. The post holder will also work on the implementation of planned programmes of care delegated by the School Nurse specialist practitioner. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contribute to the identification and protection of children at risk of abuse and act in accordance with the local Safeguarding Children's Board guidelines. • Work within the Nursing & Midwifery Council's (NMC) framework for practice. All community staff nurse should have knowledge and work in accordance with Trust policies and guidelines including clinical supervision.
