Overview
We are seeking an experienced Operational Manager for a 3-6 month interim assignment to lead and oversee a busy frontline service. This role will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of operations, including staff supervision, performance monitoring, service delivery, and effective resource management.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee day-to-day operations of a busy frontline service, ensuring smooth service delivery.
- Supervise staff, monitor performance, and manage resources effectively.
- Provide analytical judgement, policy making, high-level report writing, and agile decision making.
- Identify opportunities, problems, or obstacles and shape and implement a vision for the future.
- Lead planning and continual improvement of the business area to meet council plan priorities and partnership objectives.
- Build collaborative relationships and engage constructively with key stakeholders.
- Lead and manage external contracts, producing high-level reports detailing progress against work areas.
- Ensure services offer best value, are innovative, and maintain high standards of quality while being responsive to partnership needs and service requirements.
- Demonstrate clear corporate direction aligned with the council’s priority programs to achieve effectiveness, efficiency, and economy in operation.
- Advise senior managers on analysis of service requirements and the provision, review, and monitoring of performance indicators for responsiveness, quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications
- Substantial proven experience of managing a team within a local authority/community safety environment.
- Experience in leading, developing, and motivating teams to achieve key Council and partnership priorities.
- Experience of partnership working and maintaining strong relationships for effective service delivery.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships and work with key stakeholders.
- Experience in planning, delivery, and continual improvement of services to meet performance against council plan priorities and partnership objectives.
- Strong analytical, policy-making, report-writing, and agile decision-making skills.
- Experience in service improvement, innovation, and initiative.
- Ability to identify opportunities and obstacles and act to shape and implement a future vision.
- Experience in high-profile, politically sensitive environments.
- Experience in producing statutory and other performance returns.
