NHS Ayrshire & Arran is seeking a Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurse to join the Adult Community Mental Health Service. This permanent post involves delivering mental health care in patients' homes and community settings, working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

You will coordinate and develop specialist community mental health nursing interventions, support patients and carers, and provide leadership and supervision to junior staff.

Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 to permanently join our Adult Community Psychiatric Nursing Team. This post is offered on a permanent basis.

Hours

36 hours per week.

The Community Psychiatric Nurse Team deliver a service Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm (excluding Public Holidays) on a Friday the core service closes at 330pm however there is a clinical need to continue the Duty Service until 5pm and as such this is covered on a rotational basis by all nursing staff based within Three Towns Resource Centre.

A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

What You Will Do

The Community Psychiatric Nurse Team deliver a service Monday to Thursday from 9am to 5pm (excluding Public Holidays) on a Friday the core service closes at 330pm however there is a clinical need to continue the Duty Service until 5pm and as such this is covered on a rotational basis by all nursing staff based within Three Towns Resource Centre.

The successful applicants will be highly motivated and committed to providing mental health care to individuals diagnosed with, or suspected to be experiencing, mental illness requiring assessment, treatment, and intervention from the Adult Community Mental Health Service. Care will be delivered within patients’ homes and community settings.

Key Responsibilities Include
Knowledge, training and/or experience required for this post
  • Coordinating, developing, and implementing specialist community mental health nursing interventions.
  • Supporting patients and carers within a multi-disciplinary framework, particularly in the post-admission period to facilitate smoother discharge.
  • Responding dynamically to clinical situations and managing team capacity to meet service demands.
  • Providing leadership, management, support, and supervision to junior staff.
  • Ensuring staff training and development aligns with local health needs and governance requirements.
Essential Criteria
  • RNMH qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Desirable Experience
  • Acute mental health nursing in the community.
  • Working with individuals experiencing acute mental illness.

Applicants must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as a lone worker across various community settings, and a sound understanding of current mental health policies and legislation.
