Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is seeking two experienced phlebotomists to join the community phlebotomy service in Sheffield. The roles involve venepuncture in patients' homes, with a requirement to drive throughout the city.

You will perform domiciliary blood collection and testing, prioritise visits, ensure proper labeling and sample integrity, maintain patient privacy, and report concerns to GPs or district nurses.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 2 in health and care or equivalent experience/qualifications.
• Trained in venepuncture with relevant certification.

Responsibilities

• Undertake domiciliary visits to housebound patients to collect venous blood samples using agreed equipment.
• Undertake domiciliary visits to housebound patients to collect and test capillary blood samples using agreed equipment as part of the anticoagulation monitoring service.
• Perform clinical practice to the agreed standards and consistent with safe practice.
• Prepare specimens for transport ensuring correct collection, labelling and stability.
• Effectively prioritise visits in accordance with sample requirements, geographical location and sample collection times.
• Understand patient consent to treatment issues and appropriate clinical practice.
• Maintain privacy and dignity of all patients at all times.
• Deliver specimens timely to the appropriate pick up points when required.
• Report to the appropriate clinician (GP, district nurse etc) when there is concern for the health or wellbeing of the patient.
