Job description

Community Overnight Service Lead - Band 7, Watford

Hours: 22.5 hours per week

Location: Peace Hospice, Watford

Interview date: 28 May 2025

The role of Community Overnight Service Lead involves providing leadership and high-quality specialist palliative care, skills, advice, and support to patients, carers, and their families. The post will manage a team of band 6 nurses, paramedics, and HCAs, and requires prioritization skills.

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care services operate 24/7. The post requires working shifts from 9:15 pm to 7:15 am as part of an extended community team, including working in patients' homes and possibly in care homes. Occasionally, work in other hospice settings may be required to ensure staffing and experience diversity.

The candidate should demonstrate:

  • Clinical excellence in palliative care.
  • Support for service development and collaboration with external organizations.
  • Leadership and mentorship qualities.
  • Ability to support patients with complex needs holistically.
  • Effective communication skills adhering to NMC and hospice policies.
  • Ability to build relationships with community professionals and support services.
  • Participation in research and evidence-based practice.
  • Risk management skills, especially concerning lone working.
  • Responsiveness to emergency calls and providing end-of-life care.
  • Organizational skills for shift coordination.
  • Alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values.
  • Community engagement and ambassadorial roles.
  • Adherence to Lone Worker policies for safety.
  • Holistic needs assessment and care planning skills.
  • Handling service inquiries, calls, and referrals.
  • Signposting patients and families to available resources.
