Role

We are seeking a compassionate, committed and enthusiastic Community Outreach Group Worker to join our team. Thisrole is graciously funded by The National Lottery Community Fund for 3 years.

You will facilitate and deliver specialist groupwork within Inverclyde supporting women to understand and recoverfrom domestic abuse and be thriving in their community.

Applicants must hold an SVQ3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), have a full driving license with access toa vehicle, and be willing to undergo PVG and reference checks.

Who we are

For 40 years, Inverclyde Women’s Aid (IWA) has been providing vital support services to women and children across theInverclyde region. These are free, impartial, and confidential services, focused on providing a safe space awayfrom abuse, violence, and oppression. Our team of support workers offers housing advice, counselling,signposting, and employability as well as financial and practical support for women and families to buildbrighter futures for their lives.

Who we are looking for

Do you have a passion for empowering and supporting women?

Do you have experience delivering group support, in any setting or community?

Do you understand the dynamics, impact, and scale of domestic abuse, and other forms of gender-based violence?

Do you have experience liaising with agencies and advocating on behalf of service users?

You will bring to the post

• Passion in delivering specialist support programmes for survivors of domestic abuse.

• Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise under pressure

• A non-judgmental and empathetic approach

• The ability to anticipate problems and to identify solutions

• Flexibility of hours and days of work

• Ability to manage change and adapt to new ways of working

• First class communications skills

• The ability to manage personal wellbeing in a challenging work environment.

There is a requirement to work variable shift pattern which may include evenings and weekends. You will have a fulldriving licence and access to your own transport and be willing to travel throughout Inverclyde, businessinsurance would be required.

What you will be doing

You will provide specialist group programmes for women who are recovering from domestic abuse. Maintaining theconfidentiality of those accessing the service is vital, as is ensuring that all confidentiality agreements aresigned.

You’ll work on your own initiative but liaise closely with team members to ensure all aspects of the service arecovered, which requires flexibility to meet the needs of the service.

Promoting effective partnership working and developing strong links with professionals from external agencies and thecommunity are essential to maximise the support available for women. Promoting our work, and the rights andneeds of women who experience domestic abuse, to service providers and policy makers is also part of therole.

What you will get

The salary for the role is £14,759.70. You will get 42 days annual leave pro-rata inclusive of public holidays.There’s a pension contribution, enhanced sickness pay and access to a health care cash plan. Full training onthe group programme and an extensive induction. There will be opportunities for your own learning anddevelopment and coaching/mentoring will be available.

If you want to help make a difference in the lives of women, children and young people with experience of domesticabuse, have direct experience of providing one to one person-centred support, an understanding of the causes andimpacts of domestic abuse along with good interpersonal skills then you may be the person we are looking for.Applicants will have at least 2 years’ experience of working in a support or advocacy role. The MARAC team is asmall supportive team with a wealth of experience to share with new workers. Training will also be provided forthe successful candidates.
