We seek an experienced Band 6 nurse to be a core member of the multidisciplinary team, involved in assessments, care planning, treatment, and support for people with drug and alcohol issues to promote health, independence, and recovery.
Main duties of the job
- Discharge professional responsibilities under the Mental Health Act (1983) and subsequent acts, including the Mental Capacity Act (2005), adhering to NMC standards and SLaM commitments.
- Manage a defined caseload, conducting assessments and care needs evaluations under supervision.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based care programs; liaise with other agencies.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Complete risk assessments and management plans, especially for vulnerable or at-risk individuals, following safeguarding policies.
- Offer BBV testing, treatment, and naloxone at first contact where appropriate.
- Implement recovery-based care plans collaboratively with service users, facilitating appropriate transfers.
- Develop effective joint working with community mental health, social services, and voluntary organizations.
- Participate in training, duty rotas, and clinical governance activities.
- Respect individual differences and adhere to professional standards.
- Lead clinical management of care packages within a multidisciplinary team.
- Coordinate and monitor person-centered healthcare, responding to changes and promoting shared decision-making.
- Deliver individual and group therapy, including CBT skills.
- Provide physical care and therapeutic activities, ensuring engagement and professional boundaries.
- Supervise junior staff and students, and participate in recruitment.
- Maintain service standards, participate in audits and research, and ensure policy compliance.

Person specification
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with extensive post-qualification experience, especially with substance misuse and harm reduction.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Willingness to pursue NMP qualification if not already achieved.
- Diploma or degree in addictions or related fields, including CBT or dual diagnosis.
- Non-Medical Prescriber and mentorship qualifications.
Experience
- Proven ability to produce reports, presentations, and policies.
- Experience supervising staff or students.
- Proficiency with word processing and databases.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, community settings, and managing complex clients.
- Phlebotomy training is desirable.
Knowledge / Skills
- Thorough understanding of harm reduction, injecting behaviors, and safer sexual practices.
- Knowledge of physical and psychosocial issues in this client group and appropriate interventions.
- Skills in assessment, engagement, and negotiation.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-changing environment, organize time effectively, and work autonomously.
- Proficiency in clinical documentation and report writing.
- Experience and skills in training delivery and supervision.
