Job overview

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, caring and creative people to join us in providing high-quality addictions and recovery care within a fast-paced environment. We seek an experienced Band 6 nurse to be a core member of the multidisciplinary team, involved in assessments, care planning, treatment, and support for people with drug and alcohol issues to promote health, independence, and recovery.

Main duties of the job

Discharge responsibilities under the Mental Health Act (1983) and the Mental Capacity Act (2005), adhering to the NMC Code of Conduct and SLaM commitments. Manage a caseload reflecting local priorities, conduct assessments, develop and evaluate evidence-based care programs, and liaise with other agencies.

Our services include multiple sites across boroughs, offering outreach, online services, and collaborative work with stakeholders.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Complete risk assessments and management plans, especially for vulnerable or at-risk individuals.
  • Offer BBV testing, treatment, and naloxone at first contact where appropriate.
  • Implement recovery-based care plans collaboratively with service users.
  • Develop effective joint working with community mental health, social, and voluntary services.
  • Participate in training programs, mandatory training, and duty rotas.
  • Respect individual differences and adhere to professional standards.
  • Lead clinical management of care packages within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate and monitor person-centered care, using complex decision-making and promoting shared decision-making.
  • Deliver individual and group therapies, including CBT skills.
  • Provide physical care, therapeutic activities, emotional support, and ensure safety through prescribed observations.
  • Supervise junior staff and students, contribute to service standards, audits, research, and governance activities.
  • Participate in recruitment and staff development.
  • If not an NMP, apply for training within the Trust.
  • Be flexible to work across sites/services as needed.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse with substantial post-qualification experience in substance misuse and harm reduction.
  • Continuing professional development relevant to substance misuse and harm reduction.
  • Willing to pursue NMP qualification if not yet achieved.
  • Diploma or degree in addictions or related fields like CBT or dual diagnosis.
  • Non-Medical Prescriber.
  • Mentorship qualifications and updates.

Experience

  • Ability to produce reports, presentations, and policies.
  • Supervisory experience with staff or students.
  • Proficiency in word processing and databases, with willingness to improve skills.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, liaising with statutory and non-statutory services, and managing clients with complex needs.
  • Phlebotomy training.

Knowledge / Skills

  • Understanding harm reduction, injecting behavior, safer sexual practices, and interventions for stimulant use and PIEDs.
  • Assessment and engagement skills, interpersonal skills, flexibility, organizational skills, and IT proficiency.
  • Experience in supervising staff and delivering training.
