Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to lead two of our Community teams. We are looking for excellent leadership & managerial skills to ensure a dynamic and innovative approach to team building & performance.

The Post Holder will provide 24-hour continuous management responsibility for their designated area. This includes coordination of all managerial functions across the Directorate in the absence of senior management staff. The Post Holder will ensure the provision of the highest standards of care, reflecting quality standards and the Health Board's mission. Responsibilities include appropriate delegation of duties and workload within the Directorate, ensuring duties are carried out to the agreed standards. The Post Holder will provide advice and support on clinical and managerial issues.

Clinical responsibilities include providing care for low and high-risk pregnant women in both community and hospital settings. The Post Holder will provide 24-hour responsibility for their clinical area, offering advice and support to all staff levels. They may work in various settings, including acute and community environments.

The Post Holder will communicate pertinent information and guidance regarding care plans to clients and their families, which may involve persuasive or negotiation skills, especially in sensitive situations like child protection or domestic abuse. They will provide up-to-date, research-based information to enable women to make informed choices about their care, including options for the place of birth and statistical risks of genetic or metabolic disorders.

They will work in partnership with other agencies such as Health Visitors, GPs, Social Services, and voluntary organizations, supporting junior staff and discussing complex issues like child protection or clinical concerns.

Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are desirable for this role.

The ideal candidate will have experience as a midwife across all areas of care, gained through a comprehensive induction program covering antenatal, labor, and postnatal wards. They must ensure renewal of Midwifery Registration & Revalidation as per NMC guidelines.

Additional requirements include competence in IV Cannulation and perineal suturing following training, recording fundal height measurements, and performing intermittent auscultation of fetal heart rate during uncomplicated labor. The candidate must undertake yearly mandatory training such as GAP & GROW and fetal monitoring.

They will plan care for complex cases (e.g., high-risk pregnancies, substance misuse, multiple pregnancies) in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Managing and organizing workload within their responsibility area, they will oversee the Community Team in accordance with health policies. Work will be unsupervised.
