Job description


The postholder is required to provide holistic midwifery care to services users across the antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum period within the Bicester Area and surrounding areas of Oxfordshire. We have a diverse caseload of service users within our catchment area. We provide care in the form of clinic appointments and home visits, so a driving license with appropriate insurance is essential. Our team also provide an on-call service (day and night on calls), where we facilitate community births across the county, supporting other teams as well as our own. We also support the Obstetric Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital as part of an escalation policy.

We are looking for a midwife who demonstrates kindness and compassion, and who is passionate about providing a gold standard of care. We have a very supportive team of midwives and support workers in Banbury, so adding to this nurturing atmosphere is essential.

Candidates must have an existing NMC with UK Midwifery experience and have completed their preceptorship in a UK hospital. They must be currently working at a Band 6 level



Full and Part Time hours are available. Must be a car driver and have access to a car during the day and for night on-calls. You will be required to work community on-call shifts during the day and night time.

Here in Oxfordshire, we offer a unique set up of our Maternity Services with around 7500 babies born annually.


We have 4 stand-alone Midwifery-Led Birth units within the county. These are based at Banbury, Chipping Norton, Wantage and Wallingford and we also offer home births to all areas. As a tertiary hospital, the John Radcliffe is composed of a Delivery Suite with 3 Maternity Theatres and a specific Maternity Recovery Ward. We work closely with specialist services such as theFetaland Maternal Medicine Unit, Breech Team, and Maternity Bereavement Teams.Midwives employed within the servicehave the opportunity torotate to all our units/departments providing care to both low andhigh riskwomen.


For those working with us, we have a substantial support network for staff, focusing on wellbeingand development.This includes a team of professional Midwifery Advocates, Wellbeing Champions, staff networksand a staff Maternity Psychologist. You will be supported by the Practice Development Team who provide regular study days and updates and support staff clinically.We champion diversity andstrive to ensure every member of our team feelsincluded,valued, and has the confidence to speak up and be heard.
