Qualifications

Are you a Band 7 nurse looking for a new challenge or a Band 6 nurse seeking to progress? Do you want to work as part of a specialist team continually striving to deliver quality care and improve patient experience and pathways?

Do you have a specialist interest in Lung Cancer and immune checkpoint inhibitor toxicities and pathway management? If you have a passion to make a difference working within the Lung MDT team and work as a key worker for this category of patients and carers, then please apply.

We are currently looking for a compassionate, motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join us as a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide personalized care and work within Lung MDT and wider teams.

You will bring a wide range of experience and expertise, including excellent communication skills, and be committed to working as part of a team providing individualized, holistic, patient-centered care to this patient group. You will utilize all four pillars of advanced practice to support MDT working, nurse-led clinics, and contribute to service development within this specialist area.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be the named key worker for patients, working with the team to ensure equity and accessibility, supporting the best treatment for their diagnosis. They will offer holistic care provided by Kent Oncology Centre at MTW. The Lung Clinical Nurse Specialist will support research studies across the Trust as required. They will be responsible for their own caseload and must be able to work independently and within a team.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including Oncologists, Surgeons, Therapeutic Radiographers, community colleagues, and administrative staff to ensure a seamless, compassionate service. You will support patients, families, and supporters to maximize quality of life from diagnosis through their cancer pathway.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • BSc/1st degree (Health Related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
  • Post-registration course in cancer/palliative care or relevant experience in dermatology or specialist area
  • Counselling skills training
  • Post-registration course in cancer care
  • Working towards MSc

Experience

  • Managing independently for at least 2 years
  • Experience with respiratory or cancer/palliative care patients for at least 3 years
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Expertise in nurse-led practice
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to work across teams and organizational boundaries
  • Knowledge of trust policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of statistics and report writing
  • Knowledge of lung cancer symptom management
