Are you looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated community mental health nurse to join our Herefordshire Early Intervention Team, providing high-quality service interventions for people with First Episode Psychosis (FEP), ARMS, and with Children and Young People (14-18) experiencing their first episode of psychosis or at risk of developing psychosis.

As a valued member of our community multi-disciplinary team, you must have a positive attitude toward innovation and change and a flexible approach. This is a part-time post, 22.5 hours per week, over 3 days.

Main duties of the job
  • Maintain high standards of clinical care throughout the service, ensuring that the values and principles of recovery are integral to the care and support provided.
  • Care coordination for complex patients, working with families, carers, agencies and other services to coordinate quality care provision and evidence-based interventions.
  • Timely and defensible assessments, care plans and outcome measures to be completed. Ensure that the requirements of the Mental Health Act are met and that patients’ rights under the Act are upheld.
  • Manage inspections and audit of the team, if required.
  • Manage/respond to complaints/ compliments regarding the team.
  • Participate in and lead on clinical supervision for others within the team.

Job responsibilities
Operational
  • Use databases as required for performance management. Participate in data collection and oversight for audit/performance monitoring purposes. Provide statistical information if required.
  • Ensure consistent safe and timely service delivery including processing and allocation of referrals, access to assessment and day-to-day coordination and management of activity.
  • Manage workloads of clinical staff within the service and plan additional groups/activities run by staff within the service for patients and families.
  • Ensure timely allocation of referrals for assessment, care coordination and treatment.
  • Deputise for Team Manager at Trust meetings and represent Trust on multi-agency forums.
  • Ensure standards of record keeping and care planning are met across the service. Where necessary, manage performance and quality in relation to the work of the team in the form of audit.
  • Lead for the team in Trust change processes.
  • Engage with NHSE and with local and national audits.
  • Operational and clinical management of the service including coordination and completion of staff appraisals, line management, sickness absence, performance, capability, and disciplinary management of staff.
  • Recruitment, selection, and coordination of induction of new staff.
  • Management of physical and financial resources - liaising with management and acting as authorising signatory of day-to-day spending including mileage for the team.
Communication and Liaison
  • Act as a role model for all Trust staff, representing the Early Intervention Service and the Trust in various settings and forums. Facilitate open communication amongst staff within the team as well as with other Teams and Services to promote multidisciplinary approaches to care and integrated team working.
  • Liaise closely with peers in other teams to facilitate seamless care between teams for service users and families, developing strong and supportive working relationships.
  • Lead investigations of serious incidents and complaints for the Trust. Make decisions around safety of service users and staff. Demonstrate self-awareness and good time management.
  • Share/delegate tasks and responsibilities where appropriate. Utilise all available resources efficiently. Plan work of others in the team to ensure appropriate cover and performance targets are met.
Education and Development
  • Ensure a good quality learning environment for the team. Act as a mentor/assessor for learners and plan/deliver internal training and development where appropriate.
  • Maintain developments in mental health including research and evidence-based practice. Keep up to date with professional issues and developments in mental health.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Nurse or
  • HPC Registered Occupational Therapist or Recognised social work qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Training in Behavioural Family Therapy (or willingness to undertake this training)
  • I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.
  • Postgraduate degree related to professional practice in mental health
