We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

As a Community Link Worker, you will support residents to improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life by connecting them with local services, activities and community support. Working closely with GP Practices, voluntary organisations and community groups, you will manage your own caseload, provide one-to-one support, and use coaching and motivational interviewing techniques to help people achieve positive outcomes. You will be part of the Be Well service, building strong relationships across neighbourhoods and empowering residents to become more independent and connected within their communities.

About you:

We are looking for an empathetic, motivated and approachable individual with experience of supporting people on a one-to-one basis. You will have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, a good understanding of local communities and the barriers people face to improving their wellbeing. Experience of working with community groups, voluntary organisations, healthcare services or GP practices is desirable. You should be confident working independently, managing priorities, maintaining accurate records and using coaching or motivational techniques to empower residents to make positive changes.

About us:

Wigan Council has been voted ‘Overall Council of the Year’ at the APSE (Association for Public Service Excellence) Awards. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

Join Team Wigan and be part of a passionate, innovative service dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of local people. The Be Well team works collaboratively with GP Practices, communities and partner organisations to tackle inequalities and help residents thrive. We offer a supportive environment where you can make a real difference, develop your skills and contribute to a nationally recognised council with ambitious plans for healthier, stronger communities. This is a rewarding opportunity to help shape positive outcomes for residents across the borough.
