Qualification - Level 5 Teaching Qualification, PGCE or equivalent or Level 5 ESOL Subject Specialist Qualification or equivalent

DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance - this post is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (amended in 2013). Appointable candidates will be required to apply for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Information provided by you or the DBS will be dealt with in a confidential manner and in accordance with the DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here. Casual Car Documentation- The successful candidate will be a designated Casual Car User which means that car journeys may be necessary on an occasional basis, but are not essential to the role. If you do drive, you must always hold a full valid driving licence and provide your own car for use at work, as well as provide all the appropriate documentation. You will receive an allowance per mile of business use.

We are looking for a District Programme Leader to lead a high-quality, community-based pre-entry ESOL provision in partnership with a range of organisations across North and East Manchester.

The Community Learning team deliver a range of first-step learning opportunities for adults, including Talk English Courses and Clubs. The Talk English programme supports residents who don't speak English well or at all to develop their language skills and confidence, as well as connect with their community and local services.

Courses are aimed at beginners, specifically Pre-entry ESOL learners, and cover speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Clubs focus on developing participants' speaking skills in a safe, friendly environment with support from trained volunteers.

To deliver these opportunities, we work in partnership with schools, children's centres, libraries, health services and other community organisations.

As a District Programme Leader for Talk English, you will:

Lead a team of tutors to develop and deliver high quality Talk English Courses and Clubs in a range venues across North and East Manchester.

Deliver inclusive courses and clubs that recognise learners' progress, achievement, helping them to take their next steps in learning, life and work.

Work collaboratively with partner organisations and colleagues to plan provision, ensuring learners receive the support they need to succeed, access services and other opportunities in the local area.

Ensure accurate, timely and confidential completion of administrative processes for the programme you are responsible for.

Contribute to service quality assurance and improvement processes

Recruit, train and provide ongoing support to volunteers supporting Talk English Courses and Clubs.

Proactively promote the wider work of the Community Learning team and MAES with residents and organisations

We are looking for someone with extensive teaching experience of teaching Adult ESOL, ideally in the community.

Essential requirements for the role:

    • Experience of teaching Pre-entry ESOL to adults
    • A relevant teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (e.g. PGCE, DTLLS, Diploma in Learning and Skills)
    • An ESOL Subject Specialist qualification at Level 5 or above (e.g. CELTA, Cert. TESOL)
    • ICT skills to in order to record, obtain, analyse and present information across multiple channels
    • Experience of using learning technology to enhance and support teaching, learning and assessment
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
    • Strong planning and organisational skills
    • Experience of coaching and mentoring teachers.
    • Administrative skills to accurately maintain effective administration systems and information in a rapidly changing environment
