  • 22.5 hours a week (three 7.5 hour days) – initially for 12 months which can be extended on confirmation of funding.

Role

Background

The Crannie is a resident-led community space for residents in Cranston Street (off the Royal Mile) developed by the Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust (EOTDT). The hub provides much needed space for local residents to meet, work, learn and hold events. It has been funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, to have the resources to employ a staff team to resource and run the venue and support the resident’s use of the hub as well as lead a team of volunteers.

Purpose of the Role

EOTDT is seeking an experienced person to assist in managing the day to day running of The Crannie community hub. The role will be responsible for caring for the building and all facilities, ensuring quality customer service and assisting with the daily requirements of all service users.

This role is based at The Crannie Community Hub, 9 Cranston St. Edinburgh, EH88BE and is not eligible for home-working.

Upside - National Voluntary Throughcare Programme

This Scottish Government funded programme will deliver inclusive voluntary throughcare services across Scotland for men, women and young people serving a short-term sentence or following a period on remand. A collaborative and relationship-based partnership model underpins delivery to support to achieve positive outcomes for people and wider communities. Improving reintegration and wellbeing ultimately improves lives and reduces re-offending.

We are recruiting for values-driven people to join our Circle delivery team in the following Upside - Throughcare Community Worker role:

Upside - Throughcare Community Worker

Your role will be to support people returning to their community following a short-term sentence or period on remand providing relational and practical support that is tailored and responsive to the needs of the person. Working collaboratively with Throughcare Prison Worker colleagues and a range of partners you will support in co-ordinated pre-release planning to ensure a person’s journey is effectively supported.

You will have the ability to establish trusting and genuine relationships with compassionate approaches front and centre. You will be self-motivated and understand the importance of collaboration and working in partnership across organisations and sectors to support the best outcomes for people.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping and delivering a new high-profile government funded project, that is truly making a difference to people’s lives.

This role will involve working as part of a dynamic local team with workers from across Partner organisations. Primarily remotely, with some work expected at our designated work hub in Tayside and travel as required to support engagement across the partnership.

Being educated to at least SVQ level 3 or equivalent is desirable. Experience of supporting individuals in a community setting, a current driving licence and use of a car for work and being computer literate with proficient experience of Microsoft tools are essential.

Applicants should possess a qualification in social work, social care, education or health, and have relevant experience.

Based in our St. Johns Road Wellbeing Hub, our team provides a range of practical, social and emotional 1:1, group and whole-family support to children, young people and families who have experiences of care to help them:

  1. Move on from residential living to independent life and living in the community.
  2. Develop healthy relationships, connections and mental wellbeing.
  3. Build confidence, education, skills and training.

We work together with families, social work, health services and other colleagues to keep the strengths, aspirations and voice of children, young people and families at the heart of all we do while ensuring their safety and welfare is always maintained.

Our Community and Transition team work closely with our residential house teams, young people who live with us and their families and young people who have lived with us who are now requiring support in the community or supported living in one of our community flats.

In the coming year, our primary focus will be on engaging with the young men we support as well as children, young people and families from the wider community. We will also be prioritizing young people's participation by developing:

  1. Tailored Support: Develop opportunities specifically designed to meet the interests and needs of the young men we support. This could include sports, technology, or vocational training.
  2. Community Events: Organise events that bring together young people, their families, and the wider community.
  3. Feedback Mechanisms: Support young people to voice their opinions and suggestions through our participation groups and that will feed back to our newly developed Young Person Committee.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed Project Worker to join our Pentland Way Residential Service working on a rota basis (including weekend).

Barnardo's Caern Disability Services consists of three unique Projects who deliver a variety of quality services for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. We have done this for over forty years.

Our Pentland Way service supports up to 3 young people in a residential setting. Our staff play an active role in supporting the young people and their families/carers to achieve positive outcomes, as identified in the Young People's Individual Support Plans.

About You

Ideally you will have experience in working directly with children and young people in a similar setting. Experience in supporting children and young people with a learning disability and/or Autism would be an advantage. Communication with the young people is paramount - the key is time tabling; structure; reliability and consistency. You will be faced with behaviours that challenge, including physical.

The staff team across Caern Services must be fully accepting of our children and be prepared to offer them a professional relationship based on acceptance and informed by our understanding of their individual needs, wishes and experiences. We are passionate about the children and young people that we care for, showing understanding, empathy and consistency in our approach.

You will hold (or be willing to work towards) a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (for example SVQ3 children and young people) plus an HNC in social services. These qualifications are required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) as part of your employment. There may be external grants available to partly fund this.
