Overview

Are you a GP looking to diversify your clinical work and join our community Hospital Rehabilitation and Frailty team in Witney Community Hospital?

Interviews will be held from 29th September 2025.

This is a part-time opportunity working over 2 days per week in Witney Community Hospital on Mondays and Wednesdays (9:00–17:30).

We have developed a team of GPs that provide medical cover to community hospital wards across Oxfordshire. Our GPs are thriving, enjoying their role in these settings as part of a multidisciplinary team. We are recruiting additional GPs as the service develops.

Responsibilities
  1. Proactive assessment of new admissions to the ward including medical clerking within the clinical IT system, medication review, prescribing and escalation planning.
  2. Performing a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment with the MDT to optimise patient health and develop advanced care plans with the patient and family.
  3. Responding to medical concerns as they arise, including history taking, examination, investigations, diagnosis, treatment and onward referral when appropriate.
  4. Weekly ward round reviews and involvement in weekly MDT meetings.

Person Specification

Registration

  • Essential: Full GMC registration with licence to practice; up to date with appraisal and revalidation requirements.

Experience

  • Essential: Active NHS clinical experience in General Practice with demonstrable experience in urgent care and older people.
  • Desirable: Subspecialty experience at the interface between general medicine and primary care; experience of virtual ward rounds; General/Community & Acute Geriatric Medicine or General Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Urgent care.

Personality

  • Essential: Ability to work in a high functioning MDT with respect for the roles and experience of other team members.
  • Desirable: Able to tolerate a degree of clinical risk.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Completion of GP training (JCPTGP certificate pre-2005 or MRCGP).
  • Desirable: Higher degree or equivalent in a relevant field; postgraduate teaching qualification; relevant post-graduate diplomas (e.g., Diploma in Geriatric Medicine).

Clinical Skills

  • Desirable: Knowledge of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and its application.

Organisation & Management Skills

  • Essential: Ability to understand how organisations work effectively; commitment to clinical governance; ability to promote effective teamwork; capacity to prioritise workload; active participation in clinical audit; commitment to interagency partnership working.
  • Desirable: Experience in administrative, management and leadership roles of senior medical staff; inter-agency partnership development.

Leadership Skills

  • Essential: Ability to work within a collaborative MDT and share leadership responsibilities with senior colleagues of other professions.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of national and local agendas in respect of primary care commissioning, frailty pathways, and urgent care agendas.

Teaching & Academic Experience

  • Essential: Experience in supervising medical trainees; application of research evidence to clinical practice.
  • Desirable: Undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching; mentoring or teaching non-medical clinical colleagues; high-quality research with publications.

Communication Skills

  • Essential: Good communication with patients, relatives, colleagues and staff of other organisations; good spoken and written English.
  • Desirable: Good IT skills, familiarity with EMIS, Cerner, Adastra.
