Job description

The Community Gardener will play a vital role in the delivery of our Audience Development Strategy, developing and delivering training and volunteer activities in the small, medicinal Cloister Garden and recently reclaimed green area behind the Priory Church. With support and guidance from the Learning and Engagement Manager, you will work to maximise the health and wellbeing benefits for our local community and provide opportunities to learn new skills whilst ensuring that the garden is well maintained. This is a part-time permanent position for 3 days per week.

The Community Gardener will play a vital role in the delivery of our Audience Development Strategy, developing and delivering training and volunteer activities in the small, medicinal Cloister Garden and recently reclaimed green area behind the Priory Church. With support and guidance from the Learning and Engagement Manager, you will work to maximise the health and wellbeing benefits for our local community and provide opportunities to learn new skills whilst ensuring that the garden is well maintained. This is a part-time permanent position for 3 days per week.

About you:

  • Experience of developing and delivering a variety of horticulture/ gardening volunteer activities
  • Experience of community consultation, engagement and partnership working
  • Ability to work independently, exercising good initiative and judgement

About the Role:

  • Ensures that the garden is well maintained, keeping an up-to-date inventory of equipment and resources, ordering seeds, plants, compost and equipment as required.
  • In collaboration with volunteers, develops, promotes and delivers seasonal training and activities.
  • Researches and develops planting schemes and interpretation, ensuring that the Garden reflects the Order’s medicinal heritage.
  • Attend regular meetings with the wider Heritage team and provide progress reports.
