Job description

An exciting opportunity to be part of the Greater Manchester Liaison and Diversion Team as a Community Engagement Worker.

The role of Community Engagement Worker has been developed specifically for individuals with lived experience of vulnerabilities such as mental health issues, substance misuse, learning difficulties, neurodiversity, homelessness, or involvement with the Criminal Justice System. The aim is to support others who may benefit from community support and access to various treatments and interventions.

The Community Engagement Worker will act as an advocate, collaborate with clients to set goals, and support access to relevant services. They will provide emotional and practical support, inspiring hope and confidence that living well is achievable, based on their own experiences and skills.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide community-based support across the Greater Manchester area.
  • Support and promote recovery from vulnerabilities and challenges, emphasizing a user-led approach.
  • Act as an advocate for clients.
  • Work closely with Criminal Justice Services and the Voluntary Sector.
  • Refer and signpost clients to appropriate local support services.

  • Pay enhancements include a 30% additional pay for evening shifts (after 8 pm) and Saturdays, and a 60% increase for Sundays and Bank Holidays.
  • Annual leave includes 27 days plus bank holidays, increasing to 29 after 5 years and 33 after 10 years.
  • Additional benefits include a cycle-to-work scheme and a salary sacrifice car scheme.

Person specification

Education: GCSE Maths and English (Grades C-E or Level 1 minimum)

IT Skills: Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, Word

Lived Experience: Relevant personal experience of vulnerabilities such as mental health, substance misuse, homelessness, involvement with the Criminal Justice System, or neurodiversity

Support Work Experience: Volunteering or paid experience in support roles

Additional Experience: Experience with the Criminal Justice System or working with support services like ASC, Probation, or drug and alcohol services

Skills: Effective communication skills, including active listening, rapport building, and motivational interviewing.
