Community Engagement Officer (Civil Enforcement)

Hours:Average of 37 hours per week, on a 7 day shift pattern including weekends

Location:This role will be based at Maldon District Council Offices, but will work in and around the Maldon District, as required.

Description

This role offers a unique opportunity to be part of a highly visible, frontline team that works across the whole of the Maldon District 7 days a week. Working shifts you will balance community engagement, community Safety and enforcement patrols and activity.

You will act as the Councils Ambassador, so a positive and can do approach is essential!

Your day will be varied and exciting - this isn’t a desk job; you will be a Community Safety Accredited Officer who will be enforcing parking and environmental offences, and issuing penalty notices for various matters such as, dog fouling, littering and civil parking offences. You will spend much of your time out on the streets and public open spaces ensuring you are visible and proactively interacting with the community. This will involve working a shift pattern, including evenings and weekends and at times lone working.

We work closely with our partners, and have recently launched a Community Safety Hub in at the Council Offices, enabling us to be co-located with Essex Police, and to undertake joint working and joint patrols with our Police Colleagues.

About this role

You will be part of a Team, that balances working with the local community engagement and enforcement. You will help to build strong links with the local community, including joint working with Essex Police and other organisations. You will deal with a range of local issues and undertake enforcement including those under the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing act 2014. These include the following:

• Issuing Penalty charge notices for Car parking on and off-street.

• Speed Camera enforcement.

• Dog fouling

• Dog Control

• Littering

• Antisocial Behaviour

The successful candidate will have experience at working closely with the public in a customer focused role and will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to act on their own initiative, to influence, persuade and to manage difficult situations.

You will also work towards becoming a member of the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme and must possess a full driving licence.

Other duties will include:

• Liaising with contractors, Town and Parish Councils whilst Patrolling areas to help reduce anti-social behaviour, including locking and securing of sites.

• Using handheld technology to assist in your duties such as tablets, smart phones and other devices.

• Operating body cams and vehicle cameras within the Councils policy, procedures, guidelines and Codes of Practice.

• Undertaking speed enforcement in partnership with Essex Police
