About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Community Engagement Manager to join our Epsom Downs Racecourse team.At The Jockey Club, our vision is to create a thriving sport for the benefit of all. British racing can only thrive if our communities thrive. This role will be responsible for devising and delivering a Community Engagement Plan for Epsom Downs Racecourse, home to The Betfred Derby Festival. The role will be integral in helping Epsom Downs to support and contribute to its local community and to deliver increased attendance on “The Hill”. This is a role which will require full time presence at Epsom Downs Racecourse and in the surrounding area.

The Community Engagement Manager will

  • Devise and deliver a Community Engagement Plan for Epsom Downs, to support the overall 5-year strategy for the racecourse and The Jockey Club’s Community Engagement Strategy.
  • Work with the local community to make “The Hill” a focal point across the two days of the Betfred Derby Festival, increasing attendance and engagement.
  • Improve relationships with local schools and colleges, utilising Epsom Downs Racecourse’s assets and space.
  • Create and deliver regular local community forums for residents, businesses and stakeholders to improve communication and awareness of racecourse initiatives and get feedback.
  • Expand and manage existing Experience Days for young people in line with current group partnerships.
  • Create and deliver an improved tour of The Derby Trophy and help to increase community attendance and engagement at the Derby Draw.
  • Manage existing local relationships with community initiatives and charity partnerships, with both racing and non-racing audiences.
  • Auditing, tracking and reporting of activity and its effectiveness to senior leaders.

About you

  • Experienced in driving successful community engagement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of Epsom’s local community and key stakeholders.
  • Thrives when working independently and taking ownership.
  • Clear, confident communicator with standout presentation skills.
  • Collaborative relationship-builder with excellent stakeholder management.
  • Hands-on experience in delivering community engagement plans.
  • Enthusiasm for, or basic insight into, the racing industry.
