Job summary

Leatherhead Community Hub (LCH) is seeking a Community Development/Engagement Worker to empower residents of North Leatherhead, grow local leaders, and support community-led activities at LCH. You will engage residents, coordinate projects, and work with partners to ensure local voices shape decisions affecting the community.

The role offers a permanent contract, 4 or 5 days a week with occasional evenings and weekends, and a starting pay of £32,136 per year pro rata.

• Excellent listening skills and ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Proven ability to motivate and support local residents to develop strengths and skills.
• Good networking with local organisations to achieve positive community change.
• Experience volunteering or working in community settings.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Flexible approach to evenings and weekend meetings and events.
• Commitment to Leatherhead Community Hub’s mission and values.
• Experience developing and supporting volunteers is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Oversee existing community projects and encourage local involvement in supporting, running, and leading them.
• Equip residents with skills and confidence to initiate and run new community-led activities.
• Facilitate and grow the Residents’ Panel to influence governance and potentially appoint trustees.
• Promote dialogue and collaboration between residents and local service providers for better community input.
• Support the management team and trustees in prioritising resources to meet community needs.
• Where experienced, lead on social media with volunteers to raise awareness and engagement.
