We are looking for a passionate and practical community development worker who believes in the power of communities to shape healthier, more active lives. This role is about working collaboratively, strengthening the VCFSE (Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise) sector to support Oldham residents in becoming more active, improving their wellbeing, and reducing health inequalities.

You Will

  • Lead and coordinate place-based approaches that embed physical activity and wellbeing into everyday life
  • Champion the benefits of movement and community connection as tools for better health
  • Build strong relationships with residents, VCFSE Groups and orgs, partners, and stakeholders to co-create sustainable, community-led solutions
  • Support individuals and groups to develop and grow their ideas, offering practical and organisational development support
  • Help create a borough where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive
  • Work alongside key partners and the wider system including GM and national, to ensure that tackling health inequalities are the primary driver of moving more programmes and opportunities in Oldham

The ideal candidate for this role will be someone who…

  • Understands the importance of and benefits of physical activity in improving lives
  • Has experience of building trusting relationships with people and organisations
  • Is an experienced engager who is confident communicating with people from all different backgrounds and experiences
  • Is an experienced facilitator and comfortable in working through differences
  • Is solution focussed and knows how to turn ideas into action
  • Has worked in (or has significant experience of working with) the VCFSE sector, particularly small community and volunteer-led groups
  • Understands community development and working in a way that promotes inclusion
  • Can confidently represent and advocate for the VCFSE sector
  • Is passionate about tackling inequality and striving for social justice

Interviews will be held on 13 August 2025 and will include a panel interview and task.
