Overview

Are you a qualified paediatric nurse interested in furthering your community career or moving into a Community Children's Nursing Band 6 role? An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Band 6, 1 WTE permanent posts in the Children’s Community Nursing Service, based at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for highly motivated, experienced and enthusiastic Children’s Nurses who are passionate about providing high quality care to babies, children and young people in the community setting. You will require at least 2 years post graduate general paediatric experience, and you will need to be a car owner and driver. The service has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as Good in all five domains and has received positive feedback from the London Healthy Partnership peer review.

Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children is based at the St Helier site. Children are seen in the dedicated Paediatric A&E which sits alongside the adult ED, as well as Outpatient clinics, Ward and assessment unit. We support staff development and offer learning and development opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Support the transition of babies, children and young people from hospital to home.
  • Provide specialist paediatric knowledge to meet the diverse needs of patients and their families in community and hospital settings; act as a resource of paediatric expertise and provide advice to other professionals, promoting evidence based practice.
  • Hold a clinical caseload within your scope of competency.
  • Ongoing assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of outcomes of specialised nursing care in partnership with children, young people and their families.
  • Work in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
  • Document as per NMC and Trust requirements.
  • Clinical responsibilities include medicines management, blood sampling, and administration of medications via IV, IM, S/C and CVADs; administration of SACT; gastrostomy and enteral feeding management; wound care; and care of babies, children and young people with complex health needs.
  • Be an effective team player with the ability to work autonomously in patients’ homes, collaborating with CYP, families/carers and multidisciplinary teams.
