Job summary

Fresh Futures in Huddersfield is looking for a Casual Community Champion who will work mainly remotely across Kirklees. The role involves engaging communities, signposting to health services, and gathering feedback to inform future activities.

Responsibilities

  • The Community Champions are part of the Communities Team within Children and Family Services at Fresh Futures. They work directly in Community spaces, carrying out outreach to raise awareness of current health initiatives, local services, and the support offered by Fresh Futures.
  • As a Community Champion, you will play a key role in connecting people with vital health and welfare information, offering practical support, and helping communities thrive. You will engage with individuals and groups to raise awareness of important health and wellbeing topics, provide practical checks where appropriate, collect insight, and connect people to relevant services.
  • You will also help shape future activity by feeding back learning, themes, case studies, quotes and photos where possible. This is a people-facing role requiring empathy, strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to build trust with participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • To support the Fresh Futures Communities Team during their outreach work across Kirklees.
  • To promote and increase awareness of health initiatives/services and other relevant Community health topics.
  • To support Fresh Futures events delivered by the Communities Team and attend community events and meetings as a representative of Fresh Futures.
  • Arrange and participate in Community sessions, events and outreach activities to share information and resources.
  • To collect relevant data of your engagement activity to feed into monitoring reports.
  • Signpost participants to relevant services and support pathways as needed.
  • Collect feedback and insight from participants, identifying key themes and barriers.
  • Share insight and learning with the team to inform future activity and planning.
  • Document and submit relevant case studies, participant quotes and photos (with consent).
  • Take part in training sessions related to Community Champion work and ongoing skills development.

Job description

Job Role: Community Champion
Reporting to: Children & Families Service Manager
Salary: £13.57 per hour and £15.54 including Holiday Pay
Hours of work: This is a casual role and the number of hours per week/month are service dependent.
Location: Office space will be based at Brian Jackson House, New North Parade, Huddersfield, HD1 5JP. However, you will mainly work remotely, within the community across Kirklees.

Main Activities

Knowledge, training and experience required

This role would suit someone with an interest in public health, health inequalities and community development work. There isn't a need for previous knowledge as full relevant training and support will be provided. We welcome applications from individuals who speak Community languages, represent the diverse Communities of the Kirklees area, and/or come from minority ethnic backgrounds.
