About the role

The North Adult Community Psychiatric Service has an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist with mental health experience to join their community team. North Sector provides assessment and treatment services for tāngata whaiora (consumers) experiencing mental illnesses and works closely with their whānau (family), both in the community and alongside inpatient services.

About You

We are looking for a professional and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our team. To be successful, you will need to display a positive attitude and enthusiasm for this area of work. You will enjoy being part of a committed and diverse multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with professionals who recognize the importance of providing quality care and services to Whaiora and their whānau. You will interact with a variety of stakeholders and have the ability to effectively manage and prioritize Occupational Therapy assessments, formulations, and interventions in the community.

  • You will work within a multi-disciplinary team and in collaboration with tāngata whaiora, their family/whānau, primary care, community supports, and inpatient teams.
  • It is essential that you can think on your feet, triage, and prioritize tāngata whaiora’s needs appropriately and promptly.
  • You will work proactively with tāngata whaiora to support their engagement with treatment and holistic supports.
  • Highly developed risk assessment skills are important, as is your ability to build effective rapport with individuals who may be unwell or distressed.
  • A key aspect of this role is the assessment and formulation of occupational therapy interventions, which you will undertake alongside Whaiora.
  • Liaising with whānau, carers, NGOs, police, probation, and other services is part of this community-based role.
  • There is an expectation to initiate, develop, and provide group-based interventions for Whaiora.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a mental health setting is preferable.
  • New Zealand Registration as an Allied Health Professional with an Annual Practicing Certificate is essential
