Job Responsibilities:

The Communications Officer will:

  1. Provide a high-quality communications service for council activities, including campaign planning, press and public relations, advertising, and internal communications.
  2. Contribute to the effective teamwork of the Communications Service.
  3. Assist in delivering an efficient, value-for-money Communications Service in collaboration with the manager and colleagues.
  4. Plan, implement, monitor, review, and evaluate communication campaigns and activities aligned with council priorities.
  5. Ensure the delivery of the service's business plans and strategies.
  6. Manage communication projects and teams, evaluating campaigns for effectiveness and learning.
  7. Support the delivery of the council's Communications Strategy and campaigns.
  8. Achieve campaign outcomes by securing positive media coverage through press releases, media briefs, and reactive enquiries.
  9. Utilize appropriate channels and events for communication delivery.
  10. Develop and disseminate key messages supporting the Council's priorities.
  11. Collaborate on web, intranet, and social media development.
  12. Provide communication advice to senior officers and elected members.
  13. Share best practices and contribute to professional development and training.
  14. Deputize for the manager when required.
  15. Perform other related duties as needed.

The role requires flexibility, including possible out-of-hours work, and adherence to Council policies on health, safety, equality, and safeguarding. The position is full-time, 37 hours per week, with a competitive salary starting at the grade minimum, with consideration for current pay. Flexible working arrangements are supported.
