Project

Sizewell C is at the heart of the UK's clean energy revolution. This ground-breaking nuclear power plant project in Suffolk will play a vital role in delivering a sustainable future. Backed by EDF and the UK Government, Sizewell C is a once-in-a-generation project with significant opportunities to innovate, grow, and deliver excellence.

As part of the VSL Sub-Alliance, our teams are delivering specialist ground engineering works including deep soil mixing, plastic cut-off walls, load transfer platforms, and embankments - all critical enabling works for the main nuclear power station.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Communications Manager to join VSL UK within the Sizewell Sub-Alliance. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering communications strategies that engage stakeholders, promote project achievements, and ensure alignment with both VSL's global brand and alliance-wide objectives.

As Communications Manager, you will act as the voice of VSL UK on the project, ensuring clear, consistent, and impactful messaging across internal and external audiences. You will support project delivery teams by managing internal communications, media engagement, and stakeholder messaging, playing a central role in building trust and visibility for VSL's work on Sizewell C.

Main Responsibilities
Strategic Communications
  • Develop and implement VSL UK's communications strategy for Sizewell in alignment with the wider Sub-Alliance and VSL global brand.
  • Create messaging frameworks that reflect project milestones, achievements, and community benefits.
  • Support leadership in positioning VSL as a trusted partner in the Sizewell project.
Internal Engagement
  • Deliver effective internal communications to keep employees informed, engaged, and aligned with project goals.
  • Produce newsletters, briefings, and updates to strengthen collaboration across VSL UK and the Sizewell alliance.
  • Support leadership with speeches, presentations, and staff engagement activities.
External & Media Relations
  • Manage relationships with alliance communication teams, local stakeholders, and media outlets.
  • Draft press releases, project updates, and social media content highlighting VSL's role and impact.
  • Ensure consistency and compliance with alliance-wide communication protocols.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Contribute to outreach activities showcasing VSL's commitment to sustainability, local employment, and skills development.
  • Support events, site visits, and community engagement activities with alliance partners.
Governance & Reporting
  • Monitor and report on communications performance, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Ensure all communications comply with safety, governance, and corporate responsibility standards.
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in corporate or project communications, ideally within infrastructure, construction, or energy sectors.
  • Proven record of delivering multi-channel communications strategies in complex environments.
Technical Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Strong experience in media engagement, stakeholder management, and event coordination.
  • Proficient in content creation, digital platforms, and social media communications.
