Job description

Communications Manager, Asset Management (External Communications)

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.

We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income.

Our Group Functions provide the services that all areas of the business need. This requires a talented and diverse team behind the scenes, who enable everyone at L&G to do what they do best.

Joining us means helping to improve the lives of our customers and contributing to the success of the business every day.

Job Description

L&G is a leading voice in asset management, and our communications team plays a vital role in shaping how we engage with the market. As Communications Manager, Asset Management, you’ll help deliver strategic PR initiatives that promote our distribution capabilities across UK and international markets. This is a dynamic opportunity to work with senior stakeholders, manage reputational issues, and contribute to high‑impact campaigns in a collaborative and fast‑paced environment.

What you’ll be doing
  • Working with the Asset Management communications team, you will focus on developing and executing strategic PR initiatives that showcase Legal & General’s investment expertise and distribution activity across UK and international asset management markets.
  • Working closely with internal teams to craft compelling narratives aligned with business goals, identifying media opportunities, producing press materials and thought leadership content, and preparing senior spokespeople for interviews, press briefings, and speaking engagements to ensure impactful representation.
  • Working with the business to identify reputational risks, leading on developing media plans to mitigate reputational issues as well as leading on crisis communication issues.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with relevant journalists and publications, including outside of the UK.
  • Monitoring and measuring media engagement to inform and guide media activity and implement metrics models to measure and report on effectiveness of external communications activities.
  • Working with the team to ensure effective day‑to‑day management of our network of UK and international PR agencies and partnering with asset management marketing and investor relations to ensure messaging is aligned.
  • Supporting the management of the media budgets and maintaining the External Communications team processes and documentation to ensure timely, compliant communications. Uphold governance, compliance, and risk frameworks to align decisions with business ethics, values and stakeholder expectations.
  • Ensuring communications are reviewed and approved by individuals who have the appropriate knowledge, skills and expertise, and that such approval is recorded.
Qualifications

Who we’re looking for:

  • Knowledge of external communications, campaigns, PR approaches and media relations practices and tactics.
  • Understanding of UK asset management as well as broader finance or investment industry.
  • Knowledge of the pensions sector, private and public markets asset classes is desirable but not essential.
  • 5+ years of experience in asset management or financial services PR.
  • Knowledge of business and finance media landscape.
  • Experience in developing and executing PR strategies and campaigns for high‑profile organisations.
  • Team player, with a strong work ethic, who takes a collaborative and joined‑up approach to tasks but is also comfortable working independently.
  • Organised and detail‑oriented, with the ability to prioritise effectively, multitask quickly and efficiently, adapt to new situations in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with crisis communications and reputation management.
  • Experience dealing with non‑UK media (desirable, but not essential).
  • Language skills (desirable, but not essential).
  • Experience mentoring colleagues.
  • The ability to build strong relationships across diverse teams.
  • Ability to operate with discretion, maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment.
Benefits
  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance‑related bonus plan and valuable share schemes.
  • Generous pension contribution.
  • Life assurance.
  • Healthcare plan (permanent employees only).
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday.
  • Competitive family leave.
  • Participation in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand‑new electric car through tax‑efficient salary sacrifice (permanent employees only).
  • Many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high‑street stores and online.
  • In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart.
Additional Information

At L&G, we believe it’s possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all.

If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views and experiences. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel.

We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part‑time, term‑time and job shares. Although some roles have limited flexibility due to customer demand, we accommodate requests when we can.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential and connection to our purpose.
