Job description

Greenpeace is an independent campaigning organisation that uses non-violent, creative confrontation to expose global environmental problems and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future!

This is a full-time, permanent position. Open to candidates Australia wide.

THE TEAM

Our primary goal is to bring down the might of the fossil fuel order standing in the way of a sustainable future – and we need your help to do it. We need a leader who can drive our communications strategy, and help us deliver the powerful, dynamic storytelling needed to change the world.

You’ll join a skilled, dedicated and friendly team of four communications and media professionals, working in a fast-paced dynamic environment committed to impact. This role will lead the team and be responsible for managing 2 Senior Communications Advisors.

We expose environmental crimes, hold companies and governments to account, promote climate solutions and inspire others to create positive change.

THE ROLE

The Communications Manager is a critical organisational leader and drives GPAP’s communications strategy. The role manages GPAP’s communications team and is a key contributor to GPAP campaign, brand, fundraising and engagement goals. The organisation looks to this role for guidance and leadership to ensure the story of Greenpeace and our campaigns is delivered in an impactful and integrated way. The role develops key narratives for the organisation and our campaigns, oversees our media and comms practitioners, leads audience strategies and is the point person for crisis communications.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for someone who deeply understands the communications and media needs of a campaigning organisation. We need someone who understands social and political change and knows how to leverage an organisation’s strength to create it.

You understand the complex and ever-changing media landscape, including the intersection of traditional, digital and social media.

You’ll be experienced in leading and managing a team of communications specialists, and you’ll be able to foster a culture that delivers excellence while ensuring the wellbeing of our brilliant staff (and yourself). You care about your colleagues, you collaborate naturally and you build relationships that make the organisation stronger.

You’ll have a background in communications, journalism or public relations.

Whilst ensuring excellent quality and coordinating the design of engaging content, you’ll also have :

  1. In-depth knowledge and experience of regional, state, national and international media
  2. Deep understanding of framing, narrative and persuasive communications theory
  3. Strong level of knowledge and understanding of how to use research, insights and analysis to develop communication strategies.
  4. Excellent project management skills and proven experience with both internal and external resources

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  1. A role with one of the most well-known brands in the environmental NGO space, and the strength of the 50 years of Greenpeace behind you
  2. A great work-life balance including 35 hour work week, integrity framework and generous leave conditions (including an additional week of paid leave between Christmas and New Years)
  3. Genuine flexible working conditions including remote work or hybrid working arrangements
  4. An incredible brand new head office space that has just opened up in Rosebery, Sydney
  5. A culture that celebrates inclusivity, belonging and diversity
  6. An annual health allowance

Annual full-time salary: $130,671.81 per annum + 11.5% superannuation.

  1. Submit a Cover Letter (of no more than 1 page) and Resume (of no more than 3 pages) by clicking the ‘Apply’ button.
  2. Applicants who do not submit a Cover Letter will not be considered.
