The Communications and Event Officer will lead and coordinate the development and implementation of communication strategies that shift attitudes, build support and empower positive environmental action to meet Biolinks Alliances program goals to secure the biodiversity of central Victoria for future generations.

Knowledge-sharing and relationship building is key to Biolinks Alliances strategy for large-scale landscape restoration. Biolinks Alliance is a provider of specialist knowledge of effective and science-based conservation practices and this role would ensure it is communicated in the most engaging, creative and accurate ways for the greatest uptake and impact.

The role would develop communications strategies and deliver communications assets across the whole organisation and for leading landscape projects and initiatives, thereby building a sustainable and flexible framework for an ongoing effective communications programs in the Alliance. Events are one of the key ways the organisation builds relationships and extends knowledge; this role would have oversight of the organisations events program. The role would be an integral part of a small team, working closely with all roles and reporting to the Program Director/Manager.

Roles and responsibilities

Programs and project related communications

  • Oversee the implementation of an integrated communications strategy, for Biolinks Alliances Vision, Mission and Goals, across all relevant platforms and channels.
  • Working with the Programs Manager, develop and implement tailored communications plans for our landscape programs.
  • Develop, implement and provide support to Project Facilitators on engagement and learning events that are part of our landscape programs.
  • Develop, implement and provide support to Project Facilitators on communication tools and products for our landscape programs. This could include but is not limited to print material, online digital materials, social media, video, podcasts etc.

Brand communications

  • Working with our Programs Manager, develop and execute Biolinks Alliances premier network and knowledge sharing event, its annual symposium.
  • Develop products to ensure the Biolinks Alliance brand is represented consistently in order to grow brand recognition and reputation.
  • Develop relationships with media organisations to assist in positioning Biolinks Alliance as a recognised and respected advocate on behalf of its member networks, regarding environmental management and ecological restoration policy and resourcing.
  • Work with team members to generate compelling content and manage its impact across Biolinks Alliances digital platforms.
  • Develop and execute our annual reports.
  • Develop and execute our quarterly online newsletters to our subscriber network.
  • Working with our Ecologists, develop and execute our monthly educational webinar series.
  • Lead supporter communications, including supporter acquisition and engagement strategies.
  • Working with the Executive Director, develop and implement fundraising campaigns (e.g. end of financial year campaigns).
  • Working with external contract resources when required, lead the communications briefs and output to achieve great results within budget.

Working conditions

Biolinks Alliance offers a flexible working arrangement, with all current staff adopting a hybrid model, depending on their personal circumstances. Candidates will be expected to work from our office, based in Tooborac, Victoria, at least one day per week, as well as travel to project sites as required. This role is advertised as flexible as either 0.6FTE up to 1.0FTE and we can accommodate levels of flexibility within that range.

Occasional weekend and evening work required, which can then be taken as time in lieu.
