Job description

Communications & Engagement Manager – Croydon Council

Salary: Grade 16 £58,692 - £60,819
36 hours per week

We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic communications professional to join our team as communications and engagement manager.

Croydon is home to more people than anywhere else in the capital. The council provides hundreds of everyday services that our 390,800 residents rely on, from caring for vulnerable children and adults, to keeping our streets clean and safe.

We’ve been making a lot of changes at Croydon, as we deliver one of the largest transformation programmes in local government today. We’ve just been shortlisted for a national local government award in the category of Most Improved Council, and a recent Corporate Peer Challenge found significant progress and improvement – including a new focus on listening to residents and customer care.

Reporting to the head of communications and engagement, you’ll play a key role as we continue this drive to transform our council and put residents firmly at the heart of local services. Managing a team of external communications and engagement officers, you’ll support services across the council to connect with our diverse communities. As the lead on consultation and engagement, you’ll champion listening to Croydon – a top priority for the Executive Mayor. You’ll ensure all our external communications activity is aligned to our strategic priorities, and inspire your colleagues to deliver creative campaigns that resonate with residents.

We’re looking for someone who is experienced in campaigns, skilled in content creation, full of new ideas and ready to suggest new ways to make an impact. The successful candidate will be passionate about what they do, and have extensive experience in a senior communications and engagement role, ideally within a complex politically led organisation. Internally, you’ll be working with colleagues at all levels, including senior leaders and politicians. In addition, you’ll build and maintain strong links with a wide range of our partners, from other local authorities.

If this sounds like you, apply today. If you’d like a chat about the role – contact susie.rundle@croydon.gov.uk
