Your role
Here at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, we’re doing government differently, using our devolved powers to develop and deliver policies to make Greater Manchester a better place for all.
We’re looking for three skilled and experienced communications and engagement professionals to develop and deliver appropriate new and existing communications and engagement approaches to support GMCA’s vision for Greater Manchester.
All posts are currently fixed term until the end of March 2026 (one to cover a period of maternity leave, two to cover currently vacant posts). You will provide broad, multi-discipline communications and engagement at a managerial level.
The roles require skills and experience in a range of communications and engagement disciplines including campaign management, media and public relations, digital communications, event management, internal communications and engagement and consultation activity.
You'll collaborate with a dynamic mix of partners to help tell Greater Manchester’s story - from cutting-edge tech companies and business leaders to universities, voluntary groups, government departments, local councils, and agencies Greater Manchester Police. Every day brings the chance to shape bold ideas with the people driving innovation, safety, and growth across our region. The work areas managed by each role could change as organisational needs or priorities evolve.
The Communications and Engagement Manager will report directly to a Communications and Engagement Senior Manager within the Communications and Engagement team and may be required to manage one or more Communications and Engagement Officers. Alongside the broad skills of their immediate team members, each successful candidate will be able to call on advice, guidance and input from specialist functional teams (corporate communications, news and media, design and digital, and participation and insight) to deliver their aims.
About you
As an experienced communications and engagement professional, you'll lead the delivery of impactful communication strategies and plans for GMCA directorates, ensuring they’re on time, on budget, and high quality. You’ll bring expert knowledge in communications, campaigns, PR and engagement and be comfortable working in political environments.
Collaboration is key as you work with colleagues and stakeholders to implement strategies and coordinate activities. You’ll make confident, data-driven decisions, often on complex, high-pressure issues. Plus, you’ll bring hands-on experience in executing and evaluating successful campaigns. Strong priority and time-management skills are essential to thrive in this fast-paced role!
