The successful candidate will be supported by the Environmental Operations Manager and will play a critical role in managing the downstream processes of the European environmental products trading business and the global primary carbon portfolio which consists of long-term complex offtake agreements from primarily nature conservation projects around the world.

This position is ideal for someone who likes organising and technical problem solving, keen to expand their knowledge and has a passion for sustainability and environmental products. You will be instrumental in supporting portfolio management, connection with downstream systems and engagement with other operations teams. The role requires close collaboration with the environmental products desk, middle office and other operations teams, including trade support and settlements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reconcile carbon inventory against the registries (EU ETS, UK ETS, Verra, CAR etc).
  • Ensure correct forward position forecasts are captured in the risk system.
  • Keep track of portfolio spending.
  • Co-ordinate and help with complex deal booking of tailored contracts in the risk system (Endur).
  • Help facilitate onboarding for new projects and counterparties, ensuring seamless integration into existing workflows.
  • Keep abreast of portfolio events to be able to effectively communicate them to internal stakeholders.
  • Run and monitor daily carbon portfolio valuation.
  • Generate, commentate and share weekly portfolio reports on volumes and value across origination, forward positions, and inventory.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • A good grasp of deal lifecycle and the operational processes involved.
  • An understanding of how a deal is valued and risks associated with forward deals.
  • Have a basic understanding of and/or be keen to learn in depth about carbon offsets and the carbon credit markets.
  • Strong technical aptitude: strong Excel skills needed (VBA, SQL an advantage).
  • Be a team-oriented individual who can collaborate across departments and different seniority levels but also work independently on critical tasks.
  • Strive to and be pro-active about improving processes and tools to gain efficiencies and reduce risks.
  • Understanding portfolio valuation and risks.
  • Knowledge of inventory, delivery and settlement processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to synthesize financial and operational data for stakeholder communication.
  • Organized and proactive approach to tracking and managing financial flows and deal events.
