The role is within the Legal and Compliance team, focusing on the preparation, review, negotiation, documentation, and conclusion of commodity contracts and freight charterparties.

Our client enters into numerous contracts for physical commodities, ranging from individual spot cargo transactions to complex structured deals. These are managed via counterparty-specific Master Agreements, Long-Form Agreements, or industry-standard agreements.

Due to increased business volume, they seek an experienced Contracts Specialist to join their team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills and responsibilities within a growing commodity trading business.

Key Role Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate trading contracts for physical energy deals, reflecting commercial terms and relevant counterparty agreements, covering deals in Asia Pacific and Europe.
• Collaborate with Trading teams and internal functions to manage contract workflows from deal execution to final signature efficiently.
• Review all commodity contracts to ensure consistency with internal reporting systems and deal recaps.
• Work closely with the legal team on legal or compliance issues arising during negotiations.

Key Qualifications and Experience

• 1 to 5 years’ experience in a physical energy trading environment, responsible for cargo confirmation drafting.
• At least 2 years’ experience with significant exposure to contract review, drafting, and negotiation.
• Extensive physical energy cargo confirmation drafting experience and understanding of the transaction cycle.
• Knowledge of legal contractual forms related to physical cargo trading, including shipping.
• Familiarity with Incoterms, trading, and shipping terms like demurrage and dispatch, and common trading acronyms.
• Experience working directly with trading, legal, and support functions in a physical energy trading company.
