Our client is a very successful international Energy Trading company with access to all key markets worldwide…

The role is within the Legal and Compliance team, focusing on the preparation, review, negotiation, documentation, and conclusion of commodity contracts and freight charterparties.

Our client enters into numerous contracts for physical commodities, ranging from spot cargo transactions to complex structured deals. These are managed via counterparty-specific Master Agreements, Long-Form Agreements, or industry-standard agreements.

Due to increased business volume, they require an experienced Contracts Specialist to join the team. This is a great opportunity to develop skills and responsibilities within a growing commodity trading business.

Key Role Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate trading contracts for physical energy deals, reflecting commercial terms and relevant counterparty agreements, covering deals in Asia Pacific and Europe.
  • Collaborate with Trading teams and internal functions to manage the physical contract workflow from deal execution to final signature efficiently.
  • Ensure all commodity contracts match internal reporting systems and deal recaps.
  • Work with the legal team on legal or compliance issues arising during negotiations.
Key Qualifications and Experience
  • 1 to 5 years’ experience in a physical energy trading environment with direct cargo confirmation drafting responsibility.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in trading contracts review, drafting, and negotiation.
  • Extensive experience in physical energy cargo confirmation drafting and understanding of the transaction cycle.
  • Knowledge of legal contractual forms related to physical cargo trading, including shipping.
  • Familiarity with Incoterms, shipping terms like demurrage and dispatch, and common trading/shipping acronyms.
  • Experience working with trading, legal, and support functions within an energy trading company.
