Our client is a very successful international Energy Trading company with access to all key markets worldwide…

The role is within the Legal and Compliance team, focusing on the preparation, review, negotiation, documentation, and conclusion of commodity contracts and Freight charterparties.

Our client enters into numerous contracts for physical commodities, ranging from spot cargo transactions to complex structured deals. These contracts are managed via Master Agreements, Long-Form Agreements, or industry-standard Master Agreements.

Due to increased business volume, they seek an experienced Contracts Specialist to join the team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop skills and responsibilities within a growing commodity trading business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate trading contracts for physical energy deals, reflecting commercial terms and relevant counterparty agreements, covering deals in Asia Pacific and Europe.
  • Collaborate with Trading teams and internal functions to manage the contract workflow from deal execution to final signature efficiently.
  • Review all commodity contracts to ensure consistency with internal reporting systems and deal recaps.
  • Coordinate with the legal team on legal or compliance issues arising during negotiations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 1 to 5 years’ experience in a physical energy trading environment, particularly in cargo confirmation drafting.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in trading contracts review, drafting, and negotiation.
  • Extensive experience in physical energy cargo confirmation drafting and understanding of the transaction cycle.
  • Knowledge of legal contractual forms related to physical cargo trading, including shipping.
  • Familiarity with Incoterms, trading, and shipping terms like demurrage and dispatch, and common trading acronyms.
  • Experience working directly with trading, legal, and support teams within a physical energy trading company.
