Job summary

Octagon Group in Wallingford is seeking a Commodity Buyer to join our engineering and manufacturing operation on a full-time, on-site basis. You will manage a specialist commodity group, drive cost-effective procurement, maintain supplier relationships and ensure on-time delivery to support production.

You will work closely with engineering, planning and production teams, raise purchase orders, monitor supplier performance, and keep supplier data and SAP delivery dates up to date to support

Qualifications

• Experience in buying/purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience managing suppliers and procurement activities.
• Strong Excel skills and data handling.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering data.

Responsibilities

• Raise purchase orders in line with production and business requirements.
• Ensure materials are delivered on time to support manufacturing demand.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
• Monitor supplier performance and drive improvements where required.
• Maintain accurate supplier information and purchase order data within the ERP system.
• Keep delivery dates up to date within SAP.
• Work collaboratively with engineering, planning and production teams.
• Support cost-effective purchasing strategies across your commodity area.

We are recruiting for a Commodity Buyer in Wallingford, South Oxfordshire to join a leading engineering and manufacturing business. This is a full time permanent position which is on site.

You'll manage a specialist commodity group, taking responsibility for the cost-effective procurement of materials, supplier relationships, and ensuring on-time delivery to support production. Working closely with engineering, planning and production teams, you'll drive supplier performance and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities of a Commodity Buyer

Requirements of a Commodity Buyer

• Previous buying/purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience managing suppliers and procurement activities.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• The ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering data.
• Experience within one or more of the following commodity areas would be beneficial:
• -Engines & Mechanical Components
• -Composites
