Our client is an exciting Energy and Commodity trading company in the heart of London…

They are in the process of gearing up to split the Gas and Power Department into a separate subsidiary of the company. The Product Control Manager will be responsible for managing the Product Control team, which is tasked with reconciling, controlling, and reporting P&L associated with trading of gas, power, and renewables.

During the spin-off, the Product Control Manager will play a key role in transitioning the current P&L processes across to the new company. Post spin-off, this role will focus on advancing these processes and working with Management and IT to develop visualization tools to enhance the outputs of the P&L team, supporting the Gas & Power Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Day-to-day P&L oversight:

  • Oversee Daily P&L reports against company Actual Risk, Annual Loss
  • Oversee the production of Monthly P&L, including ETRM vs Accounting System P&L reconciliation
  • Produce Daily forward curve, following agreed Middle Office Marking methodology agreed with Market Risk Function
  • Ensure timely submission of P&L reports to internal & external stakeholders, including Headquarters

P&L Process Review and Documentation:

Project manage the creation of Operational Manuals to ensure up-to-date documentation of P&L processes & controls.

New Business:

  • Ensure all new business requirements are analyzed, tested, and validated by the Product Control function before sign off
  • Communicate & collaborate with IT & Operations teams to address any gaps for seamless implementation

Cross-Functional P&L projects:

  • Lead collaboration on projects to enhance the visualization of P&L reports, including mapping existing workflows to new Power BI dashboards, while validating data accuracy and consistency
  • Lead collaboration with internal stakeholders to obtain feedback & align on project deliverables

Framework and Culture Development:

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to bring forward ideas, and driving ideas forward to help the team achieve its strategic objectives
  • Collaborate closely within a small, dynamic team environment where effective communication and shared problem-solving is essential.
  • Provide ongoing support to team members
  • Ensure the team is adequately cross-trained and resourced

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative discipline such as Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Ideally 5+ years of experience within a Middle Office function, preferably within the energy trading industry.
  • 2+ years of Management experience.
  • Leadership and management experience – track record of managing people and processes in challenging, fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to lead and develop less experienced staff, demonstrating experience of Performance Management processes.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively across functions.
  • Experience in P&L reconciliation/reporting, preferably within energy or commodities trading environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of gas, power, and renewables, including both physical and financial derivatives, such as futures, swaps, and options, and their respective trade life cycles.
  • Ability to highlight the root cause of discrepancies and how trade life cycle amendments impact the P&L.
  • Proficiency in ETRM systems and familiarity with transaction workflows in a trading environment.
  • Understanding of currency markets and their implications for multi-currency P&L.
  • Knowledge of key drivers that affect supply/demand in commodities markets and how these impact P&L.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with cross-functional teams including Trading, Support Functions & Senior Management.
  • Proactive in identifying, raising, and discussing potential issues to ensure risks are managed promptly.
