Job summary

Fareham Borough Council is seeking a proactive Committee Officer to support the smooth running of council committees and meetings. You will prepare agendas and minutes, liaise with report authors and senior officers, and organise both formal and informal meetings.

You’ll also assist Members’ training and development and advise the public and elected Members on meeting procedures. The role requires evening meeting attendance, a methodical approach, and the ability to manage competing priorities

Qualifications

  • Experience with committee rules is desirable; full training will be provided.

About The Role

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Committee Officer to join our team. In this role, you will support the smooth running of Council committees and meetings, ensuring all administrative processes are handled efficiently and professionally. You will be responsible for preparing agendas and minutes, liaising with report authors and senior officers, and organising both formal and informal meetings. You’ll undertake other administration tasks to support Members including their training and development and provide guidance to the public and elected Members on meeting procedures. This is a dynamic role that requires evening meeting attendance and a strong commitment to public service. About You

You will bring a steady, methodical approach and a strong sense of pride in your work. You should have excellent ICT and communication skills, both written and verbal, and be confident working independently or as part of a team. A flexible attitude is essential, as is the ability to manage competing priorities. You’ll need to demonstrate political awareness, tact, diplomacy, and a customer-focused mindset. Experience with committee rules and the ability to challenge constructively and collaboratively is desirable however full training will be provided.

Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

As part of Local Government Reorganisation, current plans will see us combine with Portsmouth City Council and the borough councils of Gosport and Havant and parts of East Hampshire and Winchester district councils to form a new, larger unitary authority for South East Hampshire. We are working towards an implementation date of 1st April 2028, known as vesting day, subject to Parliamentary approval. Until then, we remain focused on maintaining continuity, supporting our workforce, and continuing to deliver excellent services to our residents throughout the transition to the new unitary authority.
