Job description

At Sellafield Ltd, we are harnessing our expertise; bringing together world-class skills and innovative technology to solve complex nuclear, infrastructure, and engineering challenges. By joining Sellafield Ltd, you join an amazing team of people, from all walks of life, where you can thrive in a connected, considerate culture of innovation, collaboration, and community; and play a significant part in the UK’s sustainable nuclear future.

Are you a technically minded problem solver who enjoys seeing projects through from concept to completion? Do you thrive on ensuring systems perform as expected and are ready for safe operation?

We’re seeking Commissioning Test Engineers to play a vital role in the testing, validation, and commissioning of new systems, equipment, and facilities. Acting as the final assurance before assets enter service, you’ll help confirm that systems operate safely, reliably, and in accordance with their design requirements.

Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams, you’ll coordinate and execute testing activities, identify and resolve technical issues, and provide confidence that facilities are ready for operational use.

About the role

As a Commissioning Test Engineer, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering commissioning and testing activities across a range of projects. Your work will ensure that equipment and systems are thoroughly tested, documented, and proven before handover to operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong technical background who enjoys problem-solving, collaboration, and delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.

Every successful project depends on confidence that systems will perform safely and reliably when they are needed most. As a Commissioning Test Engineer, you’ll provide that confidence by ensuring facilities and equipment are thoroughly tested, verified, and ready for operation.

Your work will directly contribute to safer operations, reduced risk, improved performance, and the successful delivery of major projects. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact while developing your technical expertise within a collaborative and professional engineering environment.

  • Analyse, review, and document test results.
  • Verify that systems meet required performance, operational, and safety standards.
  • Support the successful progression of systems through commissioning and handover stages.
Technical Problem Solving
  • Identify faults, defects, or unexpected behaviours during testing.
  • Investigate root causes and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Work with project and engineering teams to implement improvements and resolve technical issues.
  • Contribute to the optimisation of systems and processes throughout the commissioning lifecycle.
Project Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Coordinate the personnel, equipment, and resources required to deliver testing activities.
  • Work closely with engineers, operations personnel, project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical advice and support throughout commissioning programmes.
  • Review procedures and instructions to ensure they are practical, accurate, and fit for purpose.
Quality, Compliance and Continuous Improvement
  • Maintain accurate commissioning records, reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure all commissioning activities are completed in accordance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Capture and share lessons learned to support continuous improvement.
  • Promote high standards of safety, quality, and professional conduct.
Your Skills and Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who enjoys understanding how systems work and takes pride in ensuring they’re fit for purpose before entering service.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Builds effective working relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Is organised, methodical, and detail-oriented.
  • Enjoys troubleshooting and solving complex technical challenges.
  • Produces clear, accurate, and professional technical documentation.
  • Maintains a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
