Job summary

SMD is seeking a Commissioning Technician to support projects globally, ensuring vehicles and equipment are commissioned to specification. You will diagnose faults, perform functional tests, and liaise with customers, engineering and project managers to deliver quality results.

The role requires an HNC qualification and hands-on fault finding in control & instrumentation, with offshore survival certificates desirable. Travel and off-site work form part of the job.

Qualifications

• Relevant HNC qualification is required.
• Time served technician with fault finding experience.
• Control & Instrumentation experience needed.
• Basic mechanical and hydraulic knowledge is expected.
• Basic PLC knowledge or experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to projects across SMD.
• Liaise between Customers, Engineering and Project Managers.
• Commission vehicles and related equipment to project specs.
• Perform mechanical/hydraulic bias fault diagnosis and fixes.
• Conduct functional testing of equipment and QA checks.
• Demonstrate systems to customers and answer technical queries.
• Contribute to continuous improvement.
• Travel worldwide as required and work off-site when needed.
• Work as part of the Production team when required.

Commissioning Technician

You will be providing technical support to projects throughout SMD and liaising between Customers, Engineering and Project Managers to provide clients with quality product, commissioned to the requirements of the project and specification.

About the role

Ensuring vehicles and associated equipment have been correctly manufactured

Mechanical/Hydraulic bias

Diagnosing and fixing faults

Functional testing of equipment

Ensuring test paperwork is correctly completed

Demonstrating systems to customers

Answering technical queries

Continuous improvement

QA checks

Work off site when required.

Work as part of the Production team as required.

Travel worldwide where required to work both on land and offshore
