Job summary

Amentum is hiring a Commissioning Engineer for the Hinkley Point C project in the UK. You will develop and review commissioning documentation, plan and execute tests, and supervise contractor activities to ensure safe, compliant commissioning of HPC systems.

You will deliver test specifications and safety documentation, analyse results, and support contractual reviews while coordinating with the project team to meet milestones.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Mechanical & Process Systems and problem solving.
  • Good ICT literacy (Excel, SharePoint, Adobe/Word review) and adaptability to project software like Switch/ Fieldview/ Navisworks.
  • Good communication skills and ability to convey complex information, working with contractors.
  • Delivery focus with a track record of achieving objectives.
  • Demonstrable history of working within safety and quality cultures.
  • Experience or working knowledge of UK power industry Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules; permit-to-work systems and lock-out/tag-out systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop commissioning documentation and review contractor-produced documentation for commissioning testing.
  • Take ownership of a programme of tests and detailed planning.
  • Participate in or lead site commissioning activities and supervise contractor personnel as needed to achieve safety.
  • Commissioning of HPC systems and test execution.
  • Provide information to assist the Commissioning Manager in meeting project milestones.
  • Support contracts partners and participate in contract reviews and acceptance activities.

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years, HPCs two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26GW of secure, low carbon electricity for 60 years, enough electricity to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the projects ‘clean energy’ benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.


The Balance of Plant Commissioning Engineer’s role will evolve during the lifecycle of the project and combine technical knowledge with project delivery skills. At the early stages you will contribute to detailed planning and preparation, including reviewing contractor produced

commissioning documentation. Following this, you will execute commissioning tests and conduct surveillance on contractor-led activities aspart of a team and analyse the results to justify the readiness of the HPC units to safely enter commercial operation.


As a Commissioning Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of test specifications and safety documentation during preparation forcommissioning. You will perform site testing safely and effectively, assist with the analysis of commissioning results, resolve problems andtake responsibility for ensuring that deliverables supporting HPC commissioning are provided on time, in accordance with the Project’srequirements. This will include giving support to contract partners and taking part in contractual review and acceptance activities.


Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable to a Commissioning Manager in the NNB HPC Project team.
  • Develop commissioning documentation and review contractor-produced documentation relating to commissioning testing.
  • Contribute to detailed planning and take ownership of a programme of tests.
  • Take part in or lead the execution of site commissioning activities which may include supervision of contractor personnel to achieve safe
  • Commissioning of HPC systems.
  • Provide information to assist the Commissioning Manager in meeting project-level objectives and milestones.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Mechanical & Process Systems with strong technical engineering skills and problem solving skills
  • Must have good ICT literacy (familiarity with using Excel, using Sharepoint, using Review & Comment functions in Adobe & Word, and adaptability to other software packages used on the project such as Switch/ Fieldview/ Navisworks 3D modelling)
  • Good communication skills and the ability to convey complex information to others and able to work as part of a team and work closely with contractors.
  • Delivery focus – either a track record of delivery or a delivery mind-set.
  • Demonstrable history of working within safety and quality cultures.
  • Not essential, but greatly advantageous, working knowledge/experience of UK power industry Electrical & Mechanical Safety Rules. At a minimum must have a working knowledge/experience of permit-to-work systems and lock-out/tag-out systems in heavy industry
