Job summary

Hunter Philips Executive Search is seeking an experienced 400kV SPEN authorised Commissioning Engineer for a central belt Scotland project. The role is hybrid, with responsibilities including commissioning HV substation equipment up to 400kV and testing protection and control systems.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years' HV commissioning experience, SPEN AWP-09 authorisation, and a track record energising transmission assets.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' experience in HV substation commissioning.
• Valid SP Energy Networks (SPEN) AWP-09 authorisation.
• Strong protection and control commissioning knowledge.
• Experience with protection relay testing and secondary injection.

Responsibilities

• Commission High Voltage substation equipment up to 400kV.
• Carry out protection, control and electrical commissioning activities.
• Perform secondary injection and functional testing.
• Test protection relays, control systems and associated equipment.
• Complete trip testing, interlocking and scheme testing.
• Support energisation and final handover activities.
• Diagnose and resolve commissioning issues on site.
• Complete commissioning documentation and test records.
• Work closely with protection engineers, commissioning teams and site management.
• Ensure all activities comply with relevant network safety rules and commissioning procedures.

Location: Central Belt, Scotland (hybrid role)

Start Date: ASAP (happy to wait until January for the right candidate)

Contract Duration: 12 months rolling contract

We're currently looking for experienced 400kV SPEN authorised Commissioning Engineers to support our client, a major Power T&D EPC Contractor across central belt Scotland.

The position would suit an established HV Commissioning Engineer with strong experience working on SP Energy Networks (SPEN) infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

• Commission High Voltage substation equipment up to 400kV.
• Carry out protection, control and electrical commissioning activities.
• Perform secondary injection and functional testing.
• Test protection relays, control systems and associated equipment.
• Complete trip testing, interlocking and scheme testing.
• Support energisation and final handover activities.
• Diagnose and resolve commissioning issues on site.
• Complete commissioning documentation and test records.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of High Voltage transmission equipment and substation systems.
• Experience supporting energisation of transmission assets.
