Job description

Job Overview

We're looking for a Commissioning Engineer to join our Operations team and play a key role in bringing autonomous maritime systems into service.

Working at the interface between engineering, operations, and project delivery, you'll be responsible for the integration, testing, validation, and commissioning of autonomous marine vessels and platforms. You'll ensure systems are configured correctly, perform as intended, and are ready for customer acceptance and operational deployment.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge maritime technology and contribute directly to the successful delivery of innovative autonomous capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct system testing, including power-up testing, sensor calibration, and communications setup.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during commissioning activities.
  • Work with Operations, Engineering, and Project teams to ensure customer and product requirements have been met before acceptance testing.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Harbour Acceptance Testing (HAT), and Sea Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Assist in planning commissioning activities and monitoring project progress.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain commissioning documentation and reports.
  • Support system configuration and technical fault-finding activities.
  • Assist Project Managers in delivering projects successfully and on schedule.
  • Liaise with customers, subcontractors, and classification societies as required.
  • Produce accurate test records, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Support safe execution of all commissioning activities using calibrated test equipment.
  • Facilitate handover activities between Operations, Marine Operations, and customers.
  • Provide technical support for post-delivery and in-service issues.
  • Support customer installations and off-site technical activities when required.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with QHSE teams to reduce failures, warranty returns, and process inefficiencies.
Qualifications and Experience
  • HNC qualification in an engineering, technology, or science-related discipline, or equivalent commissioning experience.
  • Experience within the marine engineering industry.
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capability.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines.
  • A proactive and practical approach to technical challenges.
  • HND or Degree in an engineering, technology, or science-related discipline.
  • Experience working with autonomous systems.
  • Understanding of data communications, including analogue and digital I/O, RS232, RS422, RS485, and CANbus systems.
  • Forklift Truck Licence.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.

You'll work closely with Engineering, Operations, Projects, and Marine Operations teams throughout the build, testing, and handover phases. You'll coordinate commissioning activities, resolve technical issues, and help ensure vessels are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

You’ll take a hands‑on approach to testing and fault‑finding, using your technical knowledge and problem‑solving skills to identify issues, support system configuration, and improve product reliability. You’ll also engage with customers, suppliers, and classification societies as required to support successful project delivery.

At Kraken, you’ll be part of a team developing next‑generation maritime technologies that push the boundaries of autonomy, engineering innovation, and operational performance.

You’ll work alongside talented engineers, operators, and technical specialists, taking ownership of meaningful challenges and playing a direct role in delivering world‑class maritime capability to customers around the world.
