Opportunity at The Royal Society of Chemistry

The Royal Society of Chemistry has an exciting opportunity for a Commissioning Editor to join our Books team in a dynamic, fast-moving publishing environment.

We embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, allowing teams to collaborate in person when needed.

Although based at our Cambridge office, you will be able to work from home within the UK, with occasional attendance at the office as required.

Role Responsibilities
  1. Work within our Books Commissioning team from concept to publication.
  2. Commission book titles in the chemical sciences in line with our strategic plans.
  3. Collaborate with authors, editors, and reviewers.
  4. Assess projects for publication and ensure effective marketing to end users.
Requirements
  • Experience in commissioning and acquiring content.
  • A good honours degree in science (preferably chemical science) or relevant STM publishing experience.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with academics or scientific community members.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and manage own workload.
  • Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
  • Postgraduate or practical experience in STM publishing is desirable.
