Job description

Please note: candidate must currently reside in the UK and be able to work in the UK without sponsorship.

We’re looking for a Commis Chef to join Convene’s prestigious culinary team. This position requires experience in high-volume environments with a focus on presentation and conference-style catering.

What You’ll Do:

Food Preparation

  • Ensure the prompt service of all meals and services at the required times, meeting company standards and ensuring delegate satisfaction.
  • Assist the Head Chef in preparing and presenting food for consumption in the restaurant and during service periods.
  • Follow recognised catering standards for preparation and presentation under the guidance of the Head Chef.
  • Prepare for and assist at special functions, which may occur outside normal working hours.

Operational and Customer Service

  • Attend daily menu briefings.
  • Respond promptly to client requests and comments, reporting to the Head Chef as needed.
  • Assist the Head Chef with service on hot counters, ensuring standards are met and client requirements are exceeded.
  • Collaborate with the front of house team to maintain effective stock rotation.
  • Record wastage accurately and take steps to minimise it under the guidance of the Head Chef.

Health & Safety

  • Adhere to all venue and statutory health, safety, and fire regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of personal and general cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Wear the correct uniform at all times.
  • Follow safety and hygiene regulations, including COSHH and HACCP.
  • Report defective or hazardous equipment immediately.
  • Secure stores and areas of potential loss at all times.
  • Report any loss to the General Manager immediately.

Other Responsibilities

  • Perform any reasonable management requests, including duties of the Chef de Partie in their absence.
  • Build good working relationships across the venue team.
  • Support the team during client events outside normal hours and weekends.
  • Attend company events and training sessions as required.
  • Assist with food preparation, serving, hygiene, and system operations.
