The Commercial and Compliance Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting our oil trading operations by providing analytical expertise in both commercial and compliance functions. This position requires a keen understanding of physical commodity trading, market dynamics, and regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the trading team, risk management, and legal departments to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations while optimizing commercial opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Market Analysis: Conduct comprehensive market research and analysis to identify trends, market dynamics, and pricing patterns in the oil trading industry. Monitor and evaluate geopolitical, economic, and environmental factors that may impact the oil market.
  • Commercial Analysis: Collaborate with the trading team to develop and implement pricing strategies, evaluate profit margins, and identify potential commercial opportunities. Analyze and interpret trading data, including volumes, pricing differentials, and contract terms.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to oil trading. Develop and maintain compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to applicable regulations. Monitor trading activities to identify and mitigate compliance risks.
  • Trade Documentation: Review and analyze trade contracts, agreements, and other legal documents related to oil trading transactions. Ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Collaborate with legal counsel to address any contractual issues or discrepancies.
  • Risk Assessment: Assist in assessing and managing risks associated with oil trading activities. Analyze risk exposure, evaluate creditworthiness of counterparties, and collaborate with risk management team to develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on trading activities, market trends, compliance metrics, and performance indicators. Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to senior management to support decision-making processes.
  • Relationship Management: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including traders, brokers, clients, and regulatory authorities. Foster positive relationships and ensure effective communication to facilitate smooth trading operations and compliance efforts.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus
  • Solid understanding of physical commodity trading, preferably in the oil industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and market information.
  • Knowledge of global oil markets, including supply and demand dynamics, pricing mechanisms, and trading strategies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in the oil trading industry.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify and mitigate potential compliance risks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in using analytical tools, spreadsheet software, and trading platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
